This map shows areas that we propose to continue safeguarding for employment as well as four sites where we are considering a change to the employment safeguarding.
For more information on this we recommend you read Chapter 3b: Economy and Jobs.
Housing a growing population needs to be balanced with providing sufficient jobs for existing and new residents, and ensuring there is enough land to accommodate these jobs. We achieve this, and a strong economy for South Gloucestershire, by having designated areas where land is safeguarded for employment.
We are seeking your views on the following:
Within safeguarded employment areas traditional employment uses (Office, Research and Development, Industrial, Warehousing and Logistics) will be prioritised in future planning applications, and changes to non-employment uses (such as residential) will be strongly resisted.
For clarification, the boundary shown for the urban option sites and proposed site allocations is the boundary currently safeguarded for employment in our existing local plan. The site option or allocation may differ from this, for example if it would also use land beyond the safeguarded employment area.

You can select a safeguarded employment area, urban option site or proposed site allocation by clicking on it on the map. Information on that area or site will then pop up and you can click on the green tab to comment.
For the urban option sites and site allocations only you can alternatively see and comment on these through our Urban Sites Map, which provides more detailed site information.
The sites, designations and information shown on this map is part of our Phase 3 (Regulation 18) consultation, are not ‘adopted’ and carry limited weight in determination of any planning application until the new Local Plan is adopted.
In areas which are currently safeguarded for employment within our existing adopted local plan, the existing adopted policies for safeguarded employment areas will continue to apply until they are replaced when the new Local Plan is adopted.
